What to do right now, before you call

If water is coming out, this matters more than calling us:

  1. Close the main stopcock. It is usually by the front door, under the kitchen sink or in the meter cupboard. If you do not know where it is, now is a good moment to find it.
  2. If the water is near sockets or the fuse board, switch the power off at the main switch before touching anything.
  3. Open a tap after closing the main, so the system loses pressure.
  4. If hot water is coming out, close the supply to the water heater or boiler as well.
  5. Take a photo of where it is coming from. It saves questions and sometimes lets us bring the right part.

The main stopcock is usually next to the meter, in a recess by the entrance.

With the stopcock closed, most faults do not get worse and you can call us calmly.

What we attend as an emergency

  • Burst pipes and leaks that are flooding or cannot be isolated.
  • No water at all in the house, or very low pressure.
  • Leaks in buried or built-in pipes with the meter turning non-stop. See leak detection.
  • No hot water: an electric water heater or boiler that has stopped working.
  • Drainage faults with water backing up.
  • Communities without hot water or heating in mid-winter.
  • Air conditioning down in a shop or a rental home. See air conditioning.

Common faults and what they usually are

The meter keeps turning with everything closed

Almost always a leak in a buried or built-in pipe. We locate it with detection equipment and a camera, without breaking things open blindly. More on leak detection.

No hot water

On an electric water heater it is usually the heating element (sometimes covered in limescale) or the thermostat; on a boiler, an error code or low circuit pressure. If you see a code, take a photo. More on heating and hot water.

No water, or very low pressure

It can be a closed valve, a fault in the pressure set or a break before the meter. Tell us what you see and we will point you in the right direction.

Blocked drain or water backing up

With an inspection camera we see inside the pipe before opening anything.

How it works when you call

  1. You tell us what is happening and, if you can, send a photo on WhatsApp.
  2. We tell you whether it is an emergency and what to do in the meantime.
  3. We tell you the call-out charge before setting off. Never on arrival.
  4. We see the fault and give a fixed price before repairing. If something unexpected turns up when we open, we stop and ask you first.
  5. We repair, check and invoice.

Frequently asked questions

I have closed the stopcock and the water has stopped. Should I wait?

Yes, almost always. With the water off the fault does not get worse, and a planned visit is better organised and usually cheaper.

The water meter keeps turning with everything closed. What does that mean?

Almost always a leak in a buried or built-in pipe. Close the main stopcock and call us: we locate it without breaking things open blindly.

Can I send you a photo on WhatsApp?

Yes, and it helps a great deal. A photo of where the water is coming from, of the meter or of the boiler error code saves questions and lets us bring the right part.

Do you attend communities, shops and rental homes?

Yes. We attend private homes, residents’ communities, shops and businesses.

Do you give a price before repairing?

Yes. We see the fault and give a fixed price before repairing. If something unexpected turns up when we open, we stop and ask you first.
